How to Make an App

Everything you need to know to create an app.

You’ve got a business problem you’re trying to solve and you think that the best solution might involve making a mobile app. Now what?

We’ve pulled together a number of resources that will help you make your first app, regardless of the app making platform you choose (we like to think that our platform is the best but leave the final decision up to you). First off: Should you make the app yourself or hire someone else to do it? Once you’ve considered that specific question, you’ll need to choose an app maker platform and we have some criteria that might be useful. Finally, we’ll walk you through how to make an app and customize it.

If you’re a new app creator about to embark on your first custom app, this page is for you!

Before You Begin
Ask yourself the following questions before you think about chooseing an app maker and making an app. If you want to build a consumer app, you need to be a developer or hire a developer. We suggest considering the following code-centric app development platforms: XCodeAndroid Studio or Xamarin. But if you are not a developer and want to make an app for your organization, you should look at app maker platforms. Read more here.
How to Choose an App Maker Platform

Infrastructure & Data Source

Not all platforms offer a high level of flexibility and interoperability that enable you to integrate your existing software and hardware. Understand where your data is and choose the app maker platform that works best for you. Read more here.

Ease of Use & Support

This is extremely important for novice users! Do a 10-minute test and see how easy it is to make an app with the features you want. And make sure you check what kinds of support—documentation, community, email, etc.—the app maker platform provides. Read more here.

Richness & Scalability

Many app makers allow you to make apps without coding, but with limited features unless you code. In addition, some databases restrict the amount of information you can access. Understand your needs and make your decision accordingly. Read more here.
